2 in custody after suspected stolen SUV plows into Staten Island home

STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- The driver of what is believed to be a stolen SUV lost control and crashed into a home early Monday morning in Staten Island.

Police say the driver of a 2012 Nissan Rogue was driving recklessly on Grasmere Avenue.

The driver then lost control and crashed into a two story home at the corner of Grasmere and Mosel avenues.

The family inside the home were reluctant to go on camera later Monday, but said they are relieved to be OK.

The driver behind the wheel and a passenger were taken into custody.

Sources say the vehicle was stolen on July 12 about 10 miles away. The owner of the car said he recognized it immediately from posts of the crash scene on social media.

There were no injuries reported, according to the Department of Buildings.

The DOB issued a partial vacate order and ordered the building's owner to enlist an engineer to submit a report on the structural stability of the building.

It's not yet clear when the family will be allowed to return to their home.
